Things 1-11

Didn't get the hang of posting a blog item for each "thing" until thing 12. Did all of the 11 things, so hope this counts as my posting for them. I have left my "23 things" folder home today. Will try to remember it and write a more involved entry.

Thing 23

I had a really gung ho attitude in the beginning, got frustrated in the middle, and decided to give it my all at the end since I won't be in a BCPL location again until 10/1 after tomorrow! I wasn't going to finish, and decided why stop midway. Go for it, and I did!

I really enjoyed some of the later activities like Web2.0, the Generator, and tagging.

As a part timer, I don't get the opportunity to have interaction with customers as regularly as full time staff, but can see where an introduction to many of the concepts presented throughout the 23 things could be helpful in dealing with the public.

Can't say there were any real unexpected outcomes. Knew there would be some new ideas and concepts presented, and look forward to re-exploring some of them in the future.

Sometimes, I don't think the new concepts were as clearly presented as they could have been. Instructions within some of the areas were confusing, and took several staff persons to figure things out. Clear and explicit directions would have made life easier, especially in Thing 17, sandbox.

I'm not sure I would participate again. As a part time person, I really don't have the extra time to devote to a program as involved as this along with my other branch responsibilities.

Thing 22

That was a relatively easy one thanks to the training received from BCPL. I just logged in through the BCPL home page into Overdrive, but didn't download a book as I am using a BCPL computer. I listen to, and read so many books, but find that downloading them to a computer holds no interest. Don't sit at one location long enough to really get into a book!

Maybe if the day comes that I'm off my feet, I'll try it out!

Thing 21

First frustration is that I couldn't get the computer I've been using to play anything. It kept trying to install active X and then would say the file was corrupted. May have to try this one at home.

Did get an RSS feed for travel, though. Some success!

Thing 20

I enjoyed being able to reminisce about the commercials from the 70's. Had forgotten how simple they were compared to some of the ones being used today. At least you knew the product being advertised with those commercials.

Plugging on!

Thing 19

Well, I'm spending time on each blog, but also trying to get finished!

I checked out the Web2.0 award list and went to books since as a librarian, that seemed appropriate! Found that the books site, Lulu was interesting and had all kinds of information that could be useful to customers as well as staff.

Thing 18

Wow! I can really see the use of Zoho Writer or Google docs! It's a great way to create documents that you may want to access from multiple locations! It's probably also a great tool for persons that don't have a current word processing program on their computers.

Don't know how often I'll be using, but good thing to know about!

Thing 17

Phew!

With lots of assistance from other staff persons, I was finally successful in figuring out how to add my blog to the favorites. It's in there, and now I'm on to Thing 18.

Thing 16

I've found that sometimes the most seemingly complete information can be found in WIKI's, but because of the access to the sites, I don't always trust the information as 100% accurate.

I can't imagine when the day would come that I would ever access a WIKI to input my own information as I don't have that much confidence in my information.

It's interesting to see what other persons input into them, though.

Thing 15 Web 2.0

I read the article "Into a New World of Librarianship." It is so true that a librarian fulfills many functions. We provide so much information and so many services to our customers.

Librarian 2.o is described as a strategy guide for helping we librarians find all kinds of information. Our learning never ends, as we are constantly confronted with new challenges from our customers.

This exercise is opening a whole new world of resources to us.

Thing 14 Technorati

I just can't really get into blogging. I would rather not talk to folks through the internet, etc. May be old fashioned, but I guess that's me deep down. It is amazing how many folks do it, and regularly. It's more involved than I really care to get.

Thing 13

Just finished playing around with del.icio.us. Am discovering all kinds of new things from this whole experience. Just wish I had more time to spend on it. When the whole experience is over, I'll be able to go back at my leisure and do more experimenting with each site.

Thing 12

Rollyo is a little confusing. I think I did it properly, but so far don't see it coming up on my blog. Maybe I did something wrong and will try again. This whole process is much too involved for a PT person. I'll keep plugging, though.

LibraryThing

LibraryThing

Thing 11

Just finished with Library Thing. Interesting to read the reviews of other persons on various books. I read so many books I just ought to keep them all on here so I can catalog what I have and haven't read. Now will be interesting to see if I can link it to my blog.

Thing #10

Thing #10 has been really interesting. The online image generators will be a fun thing to explore and create. I can see many uses for this tool. Again, I can see playing with it when I have a free moment.

Thing 9

Well I've just completed thing #9, Merliln, etc. It's interesting and one day when I have all the time in the world, I'll really explore all it has to offer. Looks interesting, though.

Week 4 Thing 8

I'm finding that I'm getting overwhelmed. I just don't have the time it takes to get through each step, and find the whole process more complicated than originally led to believe. It is interesting to familiarize myself with the new technology, but I feel like I should be living on the computer. Hopefully, I will get more comfortable with the whole situation.

Locked Out

Don't know how it happened, but I got locked out of my blog for a couple of days due to possible spam. It's clear now, so I thought I'd do a quick post. Am now going to explore RSS feeds and set up a bloglines newsreader account.

It seems from looking at other blogs, that we're supposed to be more descriptive with our postings. Tough for me. I've been going through the steps, and so far have done weeks 1-3. I'm still a little stumped about anything technology related that interests me.

I am extremely frustrated with my home computer as I believe I got a lemon! I love my digital camera(s) and enjoy taking pictures with them. I also download them into my home PC, and now want to get into some editing of them. I know how to rid them of red eye. Now I need to learn cropping, etc. I enjoy that. Maybe I'll be able to figure out how to load some of them into FLICKR.

Flickr

Learning about new things out there on the web. Have had a yahoo account for years, but never explored all the things available through yahoo. It'll be a good way to save important photos that I may want to share with others without being at my home computer.

Made it this far

It hasn't been too bad thus far! I wish the to do's were a little clearer, but I guess that's part of the learning process. Explore!

First time on board!

Well, this will be an interesting experience. First time I've ever had a blog, or really participated in one.
